FARA events

See below for upcoming events in 2017. Committee meetings are usually on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Committee meeting – Wednesday 21st June, 7.30pm

Monthly meetings of the FARA committee are held in the community room at Leytonstone Fire Station. Members are welcome to attend/observe; please email us first (info@fara-leytonstone.org.uk) so we know to expect you, and can get you past the understandably tight security.

FARA Get-Together – Sunday 25th June, 1pm-5pm

FARA is hosting a get-together next Sunday afternoon in the garden of the Sea Scouts Hut at 106 Malvern Road, E11 3DL. It’s a chance to meet neighbours, have fun, share food and chat and celebrate all we have in common.

We’ll supply some nibbles and soft drinks to start things off, but we’d appreciate it if you could bring more snacks to share – cakes, savouries, whatever you fancy!

Everyone living in the FARA area is invited (that’s Ferndale Road, Malvern Road, Davies Lane, Cotton Close, and upper part of Montague Road). Children are welcome accompanied by adults – feel free to bring toys/games to amuse them.

This gathering is part of a national neighbourhood celebration, the biggest since the Jubilee parties in 2012, in commemoration of Jo Cox MP’s belief that ‘we are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us’.

 Weekly coffee meetups

We meet on Thursdays from 11am-1pm at the Wanstead Tap.  The Wanstead Tap specialises in selling beers from local microbreweries and is open during the day for tea/coffee.  It’s a great space if you haven’t yet visited it.  The coffee mornings are open to all residents so if you see neighbours who have’t yet joined FARA, do let them know.

Monday walks

On Monday mornings at 10.30am a small friendly group sets off from the end of Ferndale Road for a healthy walk of about 1 hour (sometimes incorporating a not-so-healthy coffee and cake stop). Typical walks might be to Wanstead Park, Forest Gate, Hollow Ponds, or a circuit of Bushwood. We go most Mondays unless the weather is truly awful, or on the very rare occasions when no-one is available due to other commitments. If you would like to join in, just turn up.
