See below for upcoming events in 2017. Committee meetings are usually on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
Wanstead Flats History Walk – Saturday 2nd September, 2.30pm-5pm
Find out about the history of Wanstead Flats, from wealthy landowner’s playground in the 16th century to the Second World War and beyond. Led by local experts it promises to be an interesting and informative afternoon. Meet at the end of Ferndale Road. The walk is about 2 miles mostly on the flat with just a couple of slopes to climb.
Committee meeting – Wednesday 20th September, 7.30pm
Monthly meetings of the FARA committee are held in the community room at Leytonstone Fire Station. Members are welcome to attend/observe; please email us first (firstname.lastname@example.org) so we know to expect you, and can get you past the understandably tight security.
Weekly coffee meetups
We meet on Thursdays from 11am-1pm at the Wanstead Tap. The Wanstead Tap specialises in selling beers from local microbreweries and is open during the day for tea/coffee. It’s a great space if you haven’t yet visited it. The coffee mornings are open to all residents so if you see neighbours who have’t yet joined FARA, do let them know.
On Monday mornings at 10.30am a small friendly group sets off from the end of Ferndale Road for a healthy walk of about 1 hour (sometimes incorporating a not-so-healthy coffee and cake stop). Typical walks might be to Wanstead Park, Forest Gate, Hollow Ponds, or a circuit of Bushwood. We go most Mondays unless the weather is truly awful, or on the very rare occasions when no-one is available due to other commitments. If you would like to join in, just turn up.
